Vernissage Épistola dans le cadre du Festival Frye le 25 avril, 20h à Imago

L’atelier d’estampe Imago en collaboration avec le Festival Frye présente la deuxième édition du projet 

Épistola. Cette initiative est un projet de jumelage entre un écrivain et un artiste estampier. 

Épistola (Épître en français)

Le terme épître est un mot archaïque, issu du latin epistola, du grec επιστολη (epistolē), qui désigne une lettre (au sens de correspondance). 1

L’auteur envoie une lettre par la poste à l’artiste. Celle-ci peut contenir un mot, un poème, une phrase, une photo, etc. L’artiste répond également par la poste avec une image, un objet. La correspondance dure trois mois. Le résultat du projet sera exposé à la Galerie Imago au premier étage du Centre culturel Aberdeen, le vendredi 25 avril dès 20h. Entrée libre et ouvert à tous.

Imago and the Frye Festival continue their collaboration for the the second edition of Épistola, a creation project which involves the pairing of a writer and a printmaker.

The writer sends a handwritten letter by mail to the printmaker. It can be a word, a sentence, a poem, anything. The artist answers by mail with an image, an object, something. They begin a three month correspondence. The result of the project will be shown at Galerie Imago, on the first floor of the Aberdeen Cultural Centre on April 25, 8pm. Free admission and open to all.

Jennifer Lupien en résidence à l’atelier d’estampe Imago du 7 au 18 mai 2014

Biographie

Jennifer Lupien a complété en 2009 un baccalauréat en studio arts à l’Université Concordia à Montréal, où elle poursuit présentement ses études à la maîtrise en médias d’impression. Ses intérêts de recherche se situent autour de la relation à l’espace architectural à travers le mouvement et la perception. Sa pratique intègre les médias d’impression à la sculpture afin de créer des installations/interventions qui remettent en question l’espace d’exposition en détournant l’attention normalement implicite à l’oeuvre d’art vers ce dernier. Membre active de la communauté artistique à Montréal, son travail a été présenté à dans plusieurs galeries et centre d’artistes autogérés au cours des dernières années. 

Description du projet de résidence

Lors de sa résidence à l’atelier d’estampe Imago, Jennifer Lupien entreprendra la création d’une série de monotypes qui juxtaposera la sérigraphie et l’embossage de papier.  À travers cette série, elle souhaite créer des espaces architectaux fictifs qui serviront de lieu d’exposition pour des installations potentielles. Le travail se situera entre la documentation et la maquette et fera usage du papier non seulement comme support mais comme partie intégrante de l’oeuvre, suivant la même idée que le travail installatif de l’artiste qui intègre la sculpture à l’espace d’exposition.

Artist in résidence at Imago from May 7 to the 18 2014

Jennifer Lupien has a BFA from L’Université de Concordia where she is now completing an MFA in Print Media. Her research pivots on aspects of architectural spaces through movement and perception. As an active member of the Montreal art community, Lupien’s work has been shown in a number of galleries and artist-run centres.

During her residency at Imago, Lupien will be working in monoprint, screenprint and embossment in order to create fictional architectural spaces. This work will use paper not only as a substrate but as an integral part of the piece following the artist’s interest in sculptural installation.

Imago and Galerie Sans Nom host Photomatic: Travelling Tintype Studio on Friday May 2, 2014

For one day only, wet plate photographers Karen Stentaford and Christie Lawrence will have the Photomatic: Travelling Tintype Studio set up in Moncton as part of a mini maritime tour. You are invited to come and have your tintype portrait made to celebrate World Wet Plate Day on Friday, May 2, from 12:00pm - 4:30pm at Aberdeen Cultural Centre. These images are handmade. “We don’t just take your picture, we make it.” For a charge of $25 per photograph to cover the cost of materials, the result is a one of a kind portrait on a piece of tin including all of the unique affects it collects along the way. Have your portrait made just like your great-great-great grandparents did!
