Mandate and General Orientations
This artist-run print shop provides research facilities and a full-fledged workshop for contemporary print artists. Imago is the only artist-run production centre in New-Brunswick and the only francophone production centre outside Quebec. A laboratory space for creation and experimentation, it not only hosts artists in residence, lecturers, workshops and interdisciplinary projects, but attracts artists in all fields to work in contemporary print. Imago dislodges print from its traditional approach and reflects current preoccupations in present-day art. By exhibiting in conventional and non-conventional venues, Imago is helping to promote printmaking as well as the region’s artists. In addition, Imago supports emerging artists through a development scholarship in printmaking awarded annually to a graduating student from Université de Moncton or Mount Allison University in Sackville.

Historical Overview
Imago was established in 1986 and incorporated in 1992 by 11 artists from southeastern New Brunswick: Jacques Arseneault, Gillian Bond, David Bobier, Herménégilde Chiasson, Francis Coutellier, Marie Lucie Crépeau, Daniel Dugas, Will Kelly, Nancy Morin, Ginette Savoie and Barbara Symington. The centre has grown and Imago’s programming and provocative events have made it one of the major institutions for artist development in the region, in the province and throughout Atlantic Canada.

Orientations générales
Imago est un centre de production voué au développement et à la diffusion de l’estampe contemporaine. Le centre offre un lieu de recherche, un atelier fonctionnel aux artistes estampiers et une programmation qui reflète les tendances actuelles en estampe.
En plus d’offrir un laboratoire de création et d’expérimentation à travers son programme d’artistes en résidence, ses conférences, ses ateliers et ses projets de création interdisciplinaires, Imago attire des artistes de différentes disciplines explorant l’estampe contemporaine.
Imago établit ces échanges en vue de libérer l’estampe contemporaine de son approche traditionnelle et la situer dans les courants de l’art actuel. Discipline souvent conservatrice et bi-dimensionnelle, le travail des membres de l’atelier a le souci de sortir du cadre poussiéreux en explorant les avenues créatrices qu’elle offre par le biais de l’installation, le paper engineering et la recherche de nouveaux supports. Au moyen d’expositions dans les lieux et des non-lieux d’art actuel , Imago sort de ses murs et promouvoit l’estampe et les artistes de la région à l’échelle régionale, provinciale et nationale.
