Yasmine Louis est une artiste multidisciplinaire francophone établie à Toronto, au Canada, qui se spécialise dans la sérigraphie. Sa carrière se divise entre les métiers d’arts et plus récemment les arts plastiques. Que ce soit de la sérigraphie sur tissu ou sur papier, des installations temporelles dans des lieux spécifiques ou de l’art public, son travail a été reconnu maintes fois. Le Musée des Beaux-Arts de l’Ontario l’a commissionnée quatre fois pour des éditions limitées et signées de sérigraphies sur textile. Elle participe aussi chaque année au One of a Kind Show, le plus important salon de métiers d’art au Canada, où en 2019, elle y a reçu le prix Hall of Fame, offert à un-e artiste annuellement pour leur excellence dans leur discipline. De plus, elle a été commissionnée pour créer et sérigraphier 13 œuvres sur papier pour la Collection d’Art de la Ville de Toronto. Son art est aussi un art engagé : les droits des personnes 2SLGBTQIA+ and la francophonie sont des thèmes qui y reviennent, en particulier souligner la présence 2SLGBTQIA+ francophone en Ontario.
Elle a participé à des résidences artistiques au Canada, en Islande, aux Pays-Bas et au Portugal..
En 2019, Yasmine Louis a présenté Et les choses changent / And things are changing à Nuit Blanche Toronto. Cette grande installation se penchait sur l’homophobie à travers les micro-agressions. Durant sa résidence a Imago, l’artiste travaillera sur la deuxième partie de cette œuvre, quand j’ai fait ci, quand j’ai dit ça, qui explore le thème du microactivisme dans la communauté 2SLGBTQIA+. Ce travail a obtenu le support de bourses de création du Conseil des arts de l’Ontario et du Conseil des arts du Canada.

Yasmine Louis is a francophone silkscreen artist based in Toronto. Through the years, she has gained a notable reputation in Toronto’s applied art scene. She has featured her screen printed products in the largest arts and craft shows across Canada, and was commissioned on three separate occasions to create a distinct artist limited-edition signed shirts for the Art Gallery of Ontario. In addition, 13 of her screen prints on paper are part of the City of Toronto’s Art Collection. In 2019, she was inducted in the One Of A Kind Show Hall of Fame (OOAK), the Toronto OOAK is the largest arts and crafts exhibition in Canada. Each year the show inducts one artist who “excels in their medium, creating works that are exceptional both in their construction and in their level of creativity.” In the past few years, she has taken her work in many directions, exploring different techniques and art forms, including public art and site-specific installations. Her art is politically engaged and text-based, using repetition to express ideas. Francophonie and 2SLGBTQIA+ rights are recurring themes.She has previously held residencies in Canada, Iceland, in the Netherlands and in Portugal.
En 2019, Yasmine Louis presented Et les choses changent / And things are changing at Nuit Blanche Toronto, a large printed installation about homophobia through micro-aggressions. During her residency at Imago, she will be working on the second part of this project quand j’ai fait ci, quand j’ai dit ça / when i said this, when i did that where she will explore micro-activism in the 2SLGBTQIA+. This work is supported by creation grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts.
